The Powerpuff Girls - "Geshundfight"

Oh, I get it. Geshundfight is a take on the famous German phrase, "gesundheit." Anyways, we're reviewing the Powerpuff Girls episode, "Geshundfight" from the first season, and which also featured the Amoeba Boys.

The Amoeba Boys are once again trying out their petty crimes. They try to steal an orange from the orange stand, but Skinny Slim, being the nervous one, doesn't do a good job at it, the kicker, he doesn't grab the orange at all. They try to show littering to the girls, but it's just pathetic because it's just a sheet of paper. Then, The Amoeba Boys decide to, as the Professor states, stand in the park next to a "Keep off the grass" sign in an attempt to break the law, when a storm rolled in, now, they stood in the rain all night and they caught a cold, that cold mixed with their single-cell anatomy to created a devastating new virus that could then infect all of Townsville. Will the Girls find the antidote within the Amoeba Boys? Or will they just end up as sick as a chihuahua? Well I'm not telling! Because you have to watch and see for yourself.

Now, it's important to note that this is the Amoeba Boys' only appearances in Season One, they only appear once per season. When I was younger and I saw this, I thought their even plan was to get rained on and get sick and infect Townsville with their virus. I really thought THAT was their evil scheme, but since I've heard every word from Professor Utonium, that wasn't the case here. I also found it funny when the Mayor gets constant phone calls telling him that the people at City Hall are sick and they can't get in, and thanks to Sara Bellum sneezing onto the Mayor, he gets infected as well, that's karma if you ask me.

Overall, this episode is really funny, and the good part is that it doesn't push the yuckiness of f this sickness too far. I mean sure, the sick ice cream did sneeze on the girls, but they don't get infected until they come across the Amoeba Boys. I also like Buttercup shouting at the top of her lungs to the Amoeba Boys to leave Townsville, until she suddenly gets sick after she regains her cool. I also like how the Professor's microscope shows us that the germ looks like the Amoeba Boys, mostly the Boss Man. Too bad the Amoeba Boys never got arrested for infecting Townsville. As Boss Man says "I TOLD YOU YOU SHOULD'VE TAKEN THE ORANGE!"

And the Narrator is right, the Amoeba Boys are SO dumb, but we love them anyway.

Ed, Edd n Eddy - "A Case of Ed"

Remember when I reviewed Monkey Business? Well, I'm reviewing an Ed, Edd n Eddy episode that is quite similar to this. This is called, "A Case of Ed."

While Kevin is grounded for reasons unknown, Ed and Eddy celebrate his imprisonment. Double D returns from the library after buying some books that were on sale, including the plot important book in question, The Encyclopedia of Obscure Diseases. And Double D finds an interesting one, the Lack-a-Daisy-Cathro Disease, the name obviously has the last name of the show's editor, Ken Cathro. The symptoms are as follows, Rationalising of mundane circumstances, Habitual cleanliness, Abnormal fixation to headwear, and Weakness in lower extremities. Once Double D notices he has all the symptoms, he's convinced he has Lack-a-Daisy Cathro Disease, and Ed and Eddy tease him even more by adding even more symptoms like confusion, spontaneous difference in shoe size, and kicking people. And no, Eddy, rage is not a symptom.

Unlike "Monkey Business," Double D believes all this going on within him due to Ed and Eddy just teasing him, while simultaneously insulting Kevin who is still grounded. Double D could've been more suspicious to realize that this disease's symptoms are just common ailments, ailment means a minor sickness. However, right after Double D does get convinced he has this sort of disease, Eddy at first didn't quite care saying things like "Give it up, Double D, you're about as sick as Ed is." Obviously, if Eddy just tells Double D to go see an actual doctor instead of actually teasing him, then it would've been good enough.

On the plus side, Nazz does cheer Double D up knowing this is all a joke, and I like how Ed uses his toes as puppets in front of Kevin's window, and says to himself "I should be in show business." And once again, the fourth wall is broken in this installment, where Ed looks at the camera and audience and says, "That's some good TV right there." And when a howling sound effect appears out of nowhere, Ed says "I'm turning into a werewolf, Eddy." I wish I could say I felt bad for Eddy and Ed when they got beat up by Kevin near the end, but I can't because they deserved it for all the tricks they've pulled on Double D throughout this episode, which even goes so far as to take Eddy's key to his house and they get a beat down from Kevin and Double D refers to it as Kevin's Pummel Disorder. I still have one question, WHY was Kevin grounded in the first place? Did he call the three Eds dorks too much? Did he bully someone? Did he do something illegal in Peach Creek? Okay, that's all just nitpicking, it's a meh episode.

If you wanna see this plot done better, go read my "Monkey Business" review. Please?

Johnny Bravo - "Carl Be Not Proud"

"Carl Be Not Proud" is one of my favorite episodes form the second season of Johnny Bravo. It focuses on Carl and Johnny Bravo, I think Carl is my favorite semi-regular character during seasons two and three, I don't know why they underused him in Season 4 though.

The episode begins at Pops' diner, where Carl cries over the fact that his Venus Flytrap has only twelve hours to live, while Pops thinks it's just a lousy houseplant, he decides to just go ahead and put it in the kitchen, and he wanted him to spend his final days among the flies he loved so well, and Pops states that the place is lousy with the little stinkers. As Carl mourns over the loss, Johnny Bravo comes in.

He witnesses Carl crying, but before he could wonder why, he noticed he was wearing his underwear on the outside, the spins around three times until he finally gets his clothing into better gear. Then he asks Carl "who died?" And Carl shows Johnny the medical report, and Johnny reads "Twelve hours to live, no hope for recovery, fungal infestation?!" and comes to the conclusion, "Carl, your dying!" And he decides that from now on, after being mean to him for the past two decades, he decides to be the best friend he always fantasized he was. Before Carl could clear up the fact that the report was for his plant, he overhears Johnny say "anything" and starts to take advantage of this.

At Carl's house, Johnny reluctantly plays Lieutenant Biff Proton, the funny thing is, he would be interested in the space character later on in the series. Carl orders Johnny to give him a food rub, and they fight to the death, until Johnny realizes, "What am I doing?! Carl's dying and here I am pounding his head into the carpet!" Carl, using poor acting, says he sees a bright light, and collapses. Johnny tells him to not die and he'll do whatever it takes. Carl asks him "What size uni-tar do you wear?" and Johnny says to the camera, "This won't end well."

At the Aron City skating rink, Johnny has a bit of trouble skating, until Carl tells him to pretend he's sliding across a beautiful cloud, as Johnny follows Carl's idea, he gets the hang of skating. And Johnny comes over and becomes Carl's skating buddy, spinning him and lifting him in the air as if Carl was flying. But then, all of a sudden, a fresh honey comes walking by, and as usual, Johnny drops Carl on the ice, tries to go for the lady, try to woo her, but gets coffee poured onto his shirt, and beaten up silly. Once he decides he wants to leave, Carl uses his poor acting skills once again, saying his spleen hurts and everything's getting dark and pasty, Johnny buys this and tells him not to die on him and they exit the skating rink.

On the other side of town, Johnny Bravo uses a megaphone declaring how Carl is so great and that he is his best friend why trying numerous times at other people to tell them to hide him. Johnny Bravo puts down his picked sign and megaphone, and says "I don't get it Carl, we've been doing this for hours, shouldn't you be dead by now?" Carl replies, "Any minute now in the mean time, keep declaring your devotion to me!" and that's what Johnny did. "C is for the coolest guy I know, A is for the awful way I treat him, R is for his really neat bug collection, L is for the love humanity! Somebody put me out of my misery! I can't stand it anymore, I can't stand it!"

Pops comes by with Carl's Venus Flytrap all better, saying it's gonna live after all. Johnny overhears this and Carl says "Ix-nay on the ytrap-flay!" But Pops doesn't listen. It turns out that one helping of Pops' loose meat special and the little feller was as good as new. And he guesses that fancy medical report was just a big load of bunk. Johnny grows angry after discovering that it was all just for a stupid plant and he chases Carl all the way through town to the sunset. And Pops says "I like you better than people."

So, bottom line, this episode was pretty funny. It had Johnny Bravo in his usual stupid fashion thinking his friend is dying, and cows to do anything for Carl, and Carl never acts out of character in this episode, he's just taking advantage of what Johnny offered. So, if you're a fan of Johnny Bravo, check this episode out if you haven't already.

Jelly's Day - Uncle Betty's Strange Rash

Here's another cartoon starring the cute Jelly. In this episode, Jelly meets up with his goofy uncle Betty (voiced by Bob Joles) at the Museum of Stuff from Outer Space. The kicker, he gets a rash that grows plants with feet and they pop out of him.

What's weird about this episode is the fact that it was directed by Vincent Waller. not that I have anything against him, I mean, he's a nice guy and he worked on Cow and Chicken and SpongeBob. But what I think he did here was that he put a bit of a Ren and Stimpy feel to the cartoon that was suppose to be innocent looking. No kidding, if you looked on Uncle Betty's backpack, he even has a Stimpy plush toy. It also arranges with the background characters who kind of look like throw away background characters from Ren and Stimpy. Still, it's too safe and polished to be anything like the overly loud insanity that Ren and Stimpy gave us. Vincent Waller, as I've said before also worked on Cow and Chicken which also had a Ren and Stimpy feel but was still unique enough to be called it's own show.

Overall, this episode's really weird. I have a lot of mixed feelings on this. I still like Grey Delisle as the voice of Jelly and I like the character design of the flowers in the following picture here. It's just bizzare and weird. But still, if you wanna see it and let me hear your thoughts, here's the link:

Hey Arnold! - "Monkey Business"

This is all around my favorite Helga episode from Hey Arnold! In this episode, after catching an encounter with a monkey in the park from an organ grinder, Helga starts to believe that she's suffering with fear from monkeynucleosis. Apparently a parody of mononucleosis.

Symptoms of this sort of disease includes

  1. Itching and Puffiness
  2. Sweaty Palms
  3. Lack of Appetite
  4. Irritability
    and finaly
  5. Expiration.
You do have to remember by the way that Helga always has a tendency to be irritable, mostly due to her dark secrets about her love for Arnold and bully personality.

What I like about this episode is the fact that it's mostly about Helga fearing she's going to expire, and no, they never say the word die, because apparently, you can't say "die" on a kids show, despite the fact she said it in "Haunted Train" but that's another story. Anyways, to get back on track, this is an occasional instance where Helga would indeed get scared. The only thing in the episode that kind of freaked me out was the nightmare she had about being a monkey and too late to confess her love for Arnold. The episode could be like an opposite of "A Case of Ed" from Ed, Edd n Eddy in a sense, except that in that episode, Double D worried about having Lack-a-Daisy-Cathro Disease mainly due to the fact that Ed and Eddy where tricking him whereas here, Helga worries about it because she's so delirious, oh, and she didn't get teased at. Overall, a solid episode. You get sucked into Helga's dilemma, you feel bad for what she's going through, and you want to see her come out okay. P.S. This episode felt like something that Helga's voice actress, Francesca Marie Smith wrote.
