The Powerpuff Girls - "Power-Noia"

Let's take a look at some of the later season 4 episodes of the Powerpuff Girls, this one is called "Power-Noia." But first, I would like to give a shout out to Phoenix Pen and PIEGUYRULZ for reviewing this episode during a listing of episodes from Seasons 4 through 6.

Now, with that said, let's take a look at this episode which was the last one that was directed by Craig McCracken.

After a typical fight with a giant monster, as the Girls prepare for a good night sleep, Buttercup argues to Bubbles about her yelp when the monster laser zapped the three girls. In the process, Buttercup sees something on her pajamas, which kind of looks like a spider, but brushes the smudge of her dress. Anyways, after that stunt, The Professor tucks them in and tells them to prepare for the big test tomorrow which Blossom unfortunately was unprepared for. Once the Professor leaves, the nightmare starts when Him places nightmares on all three of the girls, mainly on what we fear.

Blossom's nightmare is all about failing her final exam and thinking it could be the end of her life, I've had that experience before. But you should know that it's not the end of the world if you get a C, a B, or even an F, but grades are important. Miss Keane was pretty creepy. By the way, tell Olga that about getting a B+ is not the end of the world, okay? And Bubbles nightmares are kind of Tim Burton like with the toys attacking her and Bubbles almost being suffocated by a snack, and Buttercup's nightmares, the best part, are all spider related and the CGI backgrounds kind of look like Pablo Picasso paintings or something. If I didn't know better, I'd say Buttercup just fell into the fly of despair.

This episode is pretty unique for it's dark tones, and even Him's fiendish plan to make the girls too scared to fight back. In my opinion, Him's evil schemes were the best part of the original series. Ranging from turning the people of Townsville against the girls in "Tough Love" to taking over the world in "Speed Demon." I felt bad for the girls in this episode, all those terrible nightmares they have, even going so far as to not wake-up themselves. I wonder if that's how Princess Snorebucks came to be, and I wonder if that's where the Justice League episode, "Only a Dream," got this from. If that's the case, then I won't say it's stealing.

I thought it was a straight-forward episode, I thought it was good. But PIEGUYRULZ didn't think it needed to be 22 minutes in he and Phoenix Pen's review of these episode. But in my opinion, it needed to be 22 minutes so we can explore more of the Girls going through their bad dreams and how they came to be.

I also like Him's evil spider-like form! But in the end, the Girls manage to defeat him, somehow. And it ends with The Professor in their bedroom because he had a nightmare. Ironic, isn't it?

SpongeBob - "Graveyard Shift"

This episode is filled with imagination, it takes you to another dimension, a dimension of sound, a dimension of fear, a dimension of mind, a dimension of 24 hours a day in a restaurant, where the Hash Slinging Slasher exists, and Nosferatu turns off the lights, you're crossing over into "Graveyard Shift."

Around closing time, when Tom comes to the doors to the Krusty Krab, when Squidward tries to inform Tom that he has to go home soon, Mr,. Krabs overhears all this and decides to make the hours to the Krusty Krab unlimited, in other words, 24 hours a day, With that Mr. Krabs leaves the scene leaving SpongeBob and Squidward in charge of the restaurant. Over time, Squidward spooks SpongeBob by telling him the story of The Hash Slinging Slasher, which results into SpongeBob into screaming in a rhythmic fashion, until Squidward snaps him out of it saying it was only a joke and a story, which results in SpongeBob laughing in the same rhythm. How will this end? Stay tuned.

This episode is scary........with humor! It's got a lot of good jokes about SpongeBob doing stuff, at night that is. Even rushing outside to take out the garbage and beathing heavily when he gets back inside. It's also very funny when SpongeBob takes off one of his arms and they grow back much to the surprise of Squidward, and even Patrick's little cameo was good. But the best highlight was has to be the reveal of the hash slinging slasher! Especially Squidward mispronouncing the name like SpongeBob did earlier, and he and SpongeBob's eyebrows and eyelashes rising up and shaking in fear. That's pretty funny, folks.

So, the bottom line, this episode is funny, with terror, and it's got a good story. Working late at night and telling scary stories along the way.

I must say, there should've been a Twilight Zone reference where Mr. Lawrence, who wrote this episode, would voice a parody of Rod Serling, explaining about the story of the Hash Slinging Slasher. Maybe it was a deleted concept or something from the storyboard artists.

Anyways, I like Dee Bradley Baker's character for the Hash Slinging Slasher who turns out to be a nice guy.

This episode to great to watch, even at night.

SpongeBob - "I Was a Teenage Gary" Review

You scared bro? You should be. Because we're gonna review "I Was a Teenage Gary." Much like "Chip of Fools," this episode only aired around Halloween. I have to give a shout out to PIEGUYRULZ who reviewed this episode on his ScumBob episodes list. I'll do my best to explain why I disagree with him on this episode, now, let's begin.

What's the story? Well, SpongeBob and Patrick have to go to a jellyfish convention down at Ukulele Bottom, but SpongeBob doesn't have anyone to keep an eye on Gary. It isn't until Squidward arrives and wants him to keep an eye on things, but Squidward, being Squidward is just so neglectful of Gary while pet sitting, and of course, three days later, he forgets to feed Gary. Gary does get sick, and they call the doctor. Doctor Gill Gilliam and SpongeBob don't want to do it because they're too squeamish, which results in a funny moment where SpongeBob keeps moving Gary but Squidward accidentally ends up injecting SpongeBob in the process. And get this, all Gary needed was water, what a twist! But it's not over yet. What happens next? Well, I'm not telling. Because you've got to watch it for yourself.

I have to disagree with PIEGUYRULZ on his review because, I couldn't find anything wrong with this episode, I will say that the plot wasn't all over the place, there were a lot of funny gags, like SpongeBob eating the snail food and belching and saying "MEOW! Why did I just do that? Am I cracking up?" And there's an explanation on why SpongeBob staked Squidward near the end, it was because he wanted help, and karma was coming to Squidward. These are called Squidward Karma Trips. These episodes are justified because Squidward was acting like a jerk, and it was satisfying to see him get his comeuppance for his sour attitude. This is one of those episodes, folks.

There were some parts I will agree with PIEGUYRULZ that the ending felt incomplete, but on the other hand, I don't find anything here to hate. I can say it was a good episode. Too bad it only airs around Halloween. By the way, it was written by the same people who wrote Squeaky Boots, Steve Fonti, Chris Mitchell, and Mr. Doug Lawrence, the voice of Plankton, of course. All I can say is that episodes that were written by Mr. Lawrence are mostly the best episodes of the series, minus Hall Monitor.

One more thing: The entire thing about Squidward transforming into a snail scene is just a dumb lie! A RUMOR! JUST A JOKE! I DON'T BELIEVE A WORD OF IT!

ChalkZone - "Chip of Fools"

Whoa, I guess it's been a while since I've talked about my last time I've reviewed a ChalkZone episode. Now, I'm going to get back on track. Today, I'm reviewing, "Chip of Fools."

While exploring ChalkZone, Penny, Snap, and Rudy come across the Chocolate Chip Cookie Tree, I can say that that's the kind of tree that Cookie Monster would go do. While collecting a lot of cookies, Rudy and Penny see the bubble forest and leave Snap into keeping an eye on it. But Snap eats all the cookies before they could come back to inspect the chip to crumb aspect ratio. Snap becomes tired and falls asleep and gets a very eerie nightmare about talking cookies kidnapping Snap and turning him into a chocolate chip cookie too.

I know a lot of people have not followed ChalkZone, but I have. I like ChalkZone. I especially like this episode. I like how Snap is so cookie hungry and the nightmare he had is just visually interesting. I can understand to Rudy and Penny that chalk food would still taste like chalk. And I understand. The thing that kind of bugs me is the cookie snorfeler, if that's how you spell its name. It's like a vacuum cleaner, a vacuum that only like cookies. It's easily frightened though whenever people come across the tree. That's a good sign.

Bottom line, I like the episode and it was much better than the Halloween episode that aired before this one, which although I have nothing against Tim Curry, that Halloween episode was just a weak, weak, episode. But this, this just a better episode! Too bad it only airs on Halloween, kind of like "What is Blue Afraid Of?" and "I Was a Teenage Gary."

What is Blue Afraid Of?

You scared, bro? You should be, because I'm going to review the Halloween episode for the first season of Blue's Clues, "What is Blue Afraid Of?" Although technically, Halloween is not mentioned, it has a bit of Halloween atmosphere to it. Like for example, the dark sky in the background indicated it might be early evening, and the skidoo sketch into the haunted house. Okay, let's begin.

The plot of the episode is that Blue is (as the title suggests) afraid of something, and we play Blue's Clues to figure out what she's afraid of. Along the way, we look at shadows with Shovel and Pail, look at close-up pictures of food with Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, get a video letter about shadow puppets, and finally, investigate the spooky sounds in Boo's haunted house. If you've watched the episode already, you will know that the answer to Blue's Clues was that Blue was afraid of an owl. Can you believe that? What's next? Blue being afraid of Sesame Street's Hoots the Owl? Anyways, my review.

What's really good about this episode is that unlike "Blue's Sad Day," Blue was really up to playing Blue's Clues in this episode, she was also up for it in other episodes about feelings like "Shy," and "Blue is Frustrated." But those are different stories. This episode had a lot of shrieks of terror and laughter! The funny parts of the episode are the scene were Steve pretends to be a vampire casting a shadow in the backyard and going "Bleh." Who is he, Count Dracula?, also, Mrs. Pepper's over the top screams are good, and Mailbox's knock-knock joke was quite clever, and Boo's over-the-top screams whenever Steve says his name are just priceless. JUST PRICELESS. I even like the phone call during the third clue, where the caller constantly says ?Who?" and Steve was like "No, I'm asking you who." Insert Abbott and Costello joke here, please.

Okay, let's wrap things up with my final thought. This episode was funny, with terror, and since it aired on October of 1997, it only airs around Halloween for Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. Hence a rerun of this episode on October 29, 1999 after the episode I wasn't crazy for, "Hide and Seek." In production order, it was episode 18, but in airing order, it was episode 19, and it was the last new episode from the first season until October 1998, when "What Story Does Blue Want to Play?" came along. Like I said, very strange airing order, folks. Pretty eerie.
